Mayor’s Heights is nestled between the Susan B. Anthony neighborhood and Center City. As an area with its eyes on the future, community stakeholders have started to rebrand the neighborhood as “Changing of the Scenes,” to reflect the community’s growth and development.

Mayor’s Heights is filled to the brim with Rochester history. In the neighborhood’s center, Rochester General Hospital opened up a nursing school and coined the term “registered nurse” at the institution. This move ultimately led to the professionalization of the career on a national level. The home of activists and community heroes, James and Bessie Hamm, sits on Adams Street and is preserved by the neighborhood. Recently, the home was updated with a greenspace to pay homage to the couple’s legacy.
