GENESEE-JEFFERSON

 POPULAR ATTRACTIONS

FUN FACTS

  • The Genesee – Jefferson neighborhood, often known as S.W.A.N (Southwest Area Neighborhood Association), is home to some of Rochester‘s most iconic educational and historical institutions. The Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School, rated one of the top high schools in the United States, is located in the heart of this neighborhood.

  •  S.W.A.N was founded by African-American community activist and county legislator, honorable Willie W Lightfoot, over four decades ago. Since its inception in 1976, the association has created a culture of inclusion and community activism in the neighborhood. Currently, S.W.A.N is spearheading the Grow Green Program, which works to teach concepts of STEM and agriculture in a family-friendly outdoor setting. The group also offers after school and summer camp programs for children and provides family support systems for its residents.

  • Genesee-Jefferson’s close proximity to Genesee Valley Park, University of Rochester, the Erie Canal and the Greater Rochester International Airport makes this neighborhood a fantastic setting for young professionals to live, grow and play.
